THE JICA PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM

THE PROJECT FOR IMPROVING ENERGY SAVING FOR CITIZENS IN DA NANG, VIETNAM

This project has been implementing through a Joint Venture involving Yokohama National University (YNU) and Osumi Co., Ltd. (OSUMI), in collaboration with the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade (DOIT). Financial support for this project is provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), based on the following outline.

1. Implementation period: 02/2021 – 02/2025 (4 years)
2. Target group: Citizens, students and business management of offices, hotels at Son Tra District in Da Nang City, Viet Nam
3. Target of project: Improvement of citizens’ life quality in Da Nang through the implementation of effective measures for energy saving and environmental education and training to citizens.
4. Estimated budget: up to 99,785,000 JPY

2. PROJECT ACTIVITIES IN 2022

(1) Activities for redisent houses

1-1. Survey of 350 households in Son Tra district about the habits of using electrical appliances in the home.

1-2. Measure the indoor environment of 60 households (temperature, humidity, wind speed), selected from the 350 households above.

(2) Activities for non-residential buildings

Questionnaire survey on the energy consumption situation of 50 non-residential buildings (offices, hotels) in Son Tra district, current energy consumption status, energy use information of related equipment and efforts to save energy.

(3) Energy Saving and Environmental Education

Environmental education and energy saving for primary school with the topic “How to block sunlight”

3. PROJECT ACTIVITIES IN 2023

(1) Activities for resident houses

Apply energy saving measures to 05 households (selected from 60 households above).

Of these, 04 households were supported to renovate their air-conditioned bedrooms by pasting insulation film on the glass doors and installing foam insulation on the walls; for 01 household without air conditioning, in addition to the 2 measures mentioned above, they will also be supported to install 01 air conditioner for the bedroom and install solar panels on the roof.

(2) Activities for non-residential buildings

Measure power consumption and make simple diagnoses of energy savings at 04 hotels and 04 office buildings. From there, select 05 buildings and use TRNSYS simulation software to propose appropriate energy saving solutions for each building.

(3) Energy Saving and Environmental Education

3-1. Propaganda seminar to raise citizens’s awareness about energy saving: was held in 3 wards, which are An Hai Bac Ward, Tho Quang Ward and Phuoc My Ward.

4. PROJECT ACTIVITIES IN 2024

(1) Activities for resident houses

To formulate the simulation model and manual for energy saving applied to resident houses based on the survey data implemented.

(2) Activities for non-residential buildings

To formulate the simulation model and manual for energy saving applied to non-residential buildings based on the survey data implemented.

(3) Activities for Energy Saving and Environmental Education

3-1. Contest for primary school in Son Tra District

On April 1, 2024, the Project coordinated with the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang City, Son Tra District People’s Committee and Son Tra District Department of Education and Training to organize a contest for students of 12 primary schools at Hai Ba Trung Primary School. With the form of a “Quiz” competition on the topic of environment and energy saving, students were very excited and enthusiastically participated in answering all questions of the program. This is a useful playground to help students increase their knowledge and awareness in protecting the environment and saving energy in daily life.

3-2. Lectures on the environment and energy saving for middle school students

On April 16, 2024, the Project organized a lesson for grade 6/2 students at Le Do Secondary School, Son Tra District on “How to shade the house from the sun to keep it cooler in the summer”. Thereby, sharing with students some insulation solutions for windows, roofs and walls, thereby reducing the cooling load on air conditioners, saving energy, and reducing CO2 emissions.

3-3. Propaganda seminar for citizens in An Hai Dong Ward

On May 15, 2024, the Project organized the 4th environmental and energy saving propaganda seminar within the framework of the project at the People’s Committee of An Hai Dong Ward, Son Tra District.
