LITTER ON STREET SURVEY PROJECT
The Global Institute for Environmental Strategy, Japan (IGES) and Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment are coordinating to implement Phase 2 of the JICA Grassroots project “Promoting waste separation at source and recycling (3R) in Da Nang city: Cooperation in sharing experiences in municipal solid waste management of Yokohama city (D-3RYM)”, from 2022 to 2025.
In the activities of this project, Pirika Co., Ltd. (Japan) is the unit in charge of implementing the item “Surveying the new generation of garbage and clean the area using transportation x smartphones x AI in Da Nang city”. Osumi Vietnam Co., Ltd. is the unit that supports Pirika to carry out project activities in Da Nang.
– Target of the project:
Using AI and image recognition technology, the software tracks the spread and density of litter through a mobile app. Combine live data from the streets and local waste management policies to find ways to help build a cleaner city in the future.
– How to perform:
+ Make a plan to move in the target area.
+ Record videos of selected streets using the app installed on the smartphone. Travel by motorbike or car depending on the area.
+ Using a software system developed by Pirika, we break down the collected footage to determine the type and amount of trash around the area.
+ Synthesize analysis results from the software to make recommendations to support the environmental policy of the region.
